Ever wanted to know more about our tutors? Introducing Debbie, beauty tutor at The Training Room. We caught up with Debbie to find out a little bit more about her background and what inspired her to become a tutor.

Which academy do you teach at?

I'm based in the Birmingham Academy

How long have you been working for The Training Room?

I joined The Training Room back in May 2014 when The Training Room launched their new beauty course.

What was your first job?

Before my career as a beauty therapist, I worked as waitress in a local restaurant and also worked at a hairdressers shampooing hair and making drinks.

What inspired you to become a tutor at The Training Room?

I am always progressing my career. I decided to go into teaching at 21 and it was probably one of the best decisions I have made! I love teaching and enabling others to get into such a brilliant industry.

What has been your highlight in your beauty career, so far?

A highlight in my career has been meeting and performing treatments on celebrities who came into the places that I previously worked in. Some of the cast of Coronation Street were regulars as I used to work near the studios. I did also meet Britney Spears and Pink when they were performing in Manchester when they came into the salon, although unfortunately I didn’t do the treatments!

What motivates you to work really hard?

I’ve always been a hard worker and really enjoy my job, which I think helps me to push myself. I always have a goal and never want to stop learning. Within the beauty industry, there is always something new to learn or to progress in!

What is your favourite part of the course?

This is a hard question as there are so many treatments that I enjoy teaching! Although, facials, aromatherapy and waxing are maybe my top three.

Examination day is also one of my favourite times. Although it can be stressful for the learners, it’s really nice to get good feedback from the examiner and know that my students have achieved their qualifications.

What is your own personal, favourite beauty treatment?

What is your guilty pleasure?

Shopping- MAC cosmetics! I have far too much but there’s always room for more!

What are your hobbies/interests?

I’ve just started yoga again after about a year off. I’m a real film buff, anything from toy story to Leon.

What’s your best beauty secret?

Moisturise your skin and always wear an SPF. Keep your skin hydrated and don’t overload it if it doesn’t need it.
