Ever wanted to know more about our tutors? Introducing Amanda Harewood, beauty tutor at The Training Room. We caught up with Amanda to find out a little bit more about her background and what inspired her to become a tutor.

Which academy do you teach at with The Training Room?

I’m based at the Manchester academy.

How long have you been working for The Training Room?

I joined The Training Room on May 1st 2014, as the company launched its brand new beauty therapy service line.

What was your first job?

My first job was working in a hairdressing salon after school.

What has been the 2 highlights of your beauty career so far?

I was taught by the head make-up Artist of Leichner make up, as a prize in a national make-up competition!

The second highlight of my career was when I taught a deaf learner who was born in Pakistan. This meant she couldn't lip read English so I went on a course to learn British Sign Language just so that I could teach her. I was told it couldn't be done, I like to prove people wrong!

What motivates you to succeed?

I get a warm feeling inside every time I see learners achieve their dreams knowing that I may have played a small part in that.

What is your favourite part of delivering The Training Room beauty course?

I am a results person; I like to see my hard work pay off, so waxing is my favourite. I know that must sound a bit cruel! I still have people coming to me that I started waxing 30 years ago!

What is your own personal favourite beauty treatment?

I'm in heaven after deep tissue massage, yes, it hurts at the time, but it’s all worth it!

What do you do when you aren't teaching or working?

Both my children are grown up, but one still lives at home. I love nothing more than getting together to catch up with the kids over a home cooked meal because I enjoy cooking and baking when I have the time. Catching up with friends over a meal whenever possible is great too.

I also love to travel. I've visited many places from the Far East, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Europe.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Listening to Boyz II Men songs whilst relaxing in the bath!

What’s your best kept beauty secret?

You can cut open a grape up and use it as natural toner for the skin.
