Our students – Phil White’s Story

16 October, 2012 | In: Graduates, The Training Room

Ever since I was young lad I have always been bullied and teased for my weight, however I have always been a keen sportsman, taking part in football, cricket, and badminton and becoming a national finalist in boxing. From the age of 16 I was always interested in coaching sport and wanted to work in the leisure industry. It wasn’t until I saw The Training Room course advertised that I decided it was time for a change.

I decided to apply for the course and was accepted to do the course in Bristol. When I got to the course I was by far the biggest participant there, however due to previous studies I was able to excel at the written exams. After the first day I asked the tutors if my weight was going to hamper any part of the course and they said, not unless I let it. From there I grew in confidence and my knowledge increased after deciding to do further research. Chris Hole and Kirsty Skinner’s tutoring was of an exceptional standard and they helped mentor me through the process. I even started to try different foods and to put the nutritional information into practice.

Now, after completing the course I have started working in a local gym as a fitness instructor/ personal trainer full time. I have also set up my own business as a personal trainer based in the Somerset Area. In the future I would love to be a lead personal trainer within my area and progress my skills on to tutoring.

Finally I would like to once again thank Chris Hole and Kirsty Skinner for all their help and advice throughout the course and afterwards.
