As a follow-up from last week’s post ‘Exams Finished: What Next,’ we’re taking a closer look at the alternative options to university. Starting with, taking a gap year.
After 14 years of exam stress and essays, it’s understandable why many choose to leave education and look for a new adventure. And what better way to take a break from all things college than with a trip to some of the world’s hottest destinations. We’re talking snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, snapping the Manhattan skyline and heading on safari in Cape Town; the world’s your oyster!
So, is a gap year for you?

The benefits to taking a gap year are endless. It’s a once in a lifetime experience that takes you out of your comfort zone; offering unique opportunities that you’d never face on campus. After being trapped in a bubble of teachers and getting the best possible grades, you’re given a completely new perspective and insight into what really matters in life. You’ll live and breathe new cultures, rather than just reading about them in a book, not to mention make lots of new friends along the way!
And if that isn’t enough to make you pack a bag and jump on a plane, just think of all the incredible sights you’ll see. Continent-hop, and really make the most of the freedom. You’re certain to come back with some amazing stories.
Gap years are also the perfect opportunity to really think about what you want. Maybe education isn’t for you, and you’re better suited to a more proactive career like Personal Training? Whatever your ambitions, it’s nice to mull them over on the white sands of Phuket.
