Richard Carrel – Bournemouth RFC
I am a specialist loosehead, though I played my highest level of rugby at tighthead. Some say, oh well they can't be that different! Trust me they are, ask my neck! I am now in my mid 30′s and coming towards the end of my playing career. The natural progression for me would be a move into coaching. I love teaching & coaching rugby; but the chance to write and share my passion at a deeper level is very exciting. So many people have things to say, but words read, I feel, leave a much deeper impression. My blogging & writing history is very limited but my rugby history is extensive.
Rugby has been a part of my family for sometime and is a tradition that has followed for at least 3 generations. With my Grandfather playing for Blackheath 1st XV in the 1930′s as well as gaining his Oxford Blues against Cambridge in the varsity match. My father played for Rutlish School 1st XV and then went on to play scrum half for a number of clubs in London, at a competitive level. My uncle represented England Colts, and my cousin Olly Morgan currently plays for Gloucester RFC and has 2 caps for England. I have been a bit of a nomad, playing for 7 teams in my career. Starting at New Milton RFC then Bournemouth before going onto play for Newbury, Oakmeadians, UWIC, Llanharan, Romford & Gidea Park & finishing at back at Bournemouth RFC.
My representative honours include: Dorset & Wiltshire from Under 16′s, Colts, Under 21′s, & Senior 1st XV; Essex Senior 1st XV, and Wales Universities (5 caps). Now old age and niggles have caught up with me, I am now looking to continue my involvement in rugby through writing and sharing my passion, thoughts, and opinions. These thoughts and options are strictly mine and not that of fellow players, coaches, managers or fans. You may agree or disagree; but if I can stimulate others peoples passion, thoughts and opinions of the game through my writing, then I feel I have done my job as a blogger/writer.
