The Training Room - Personal Trainer Courses

Emma Paul

1) What is your job role?

Lead Tutor at Solihull South Academy

2) Why are you so passionate about the health and fitness industry?

Working within the industry provides such variety that you can’t get bored – no two days are the same! I get to meet so many different personalities, and spend my time doing something I love whilst staying fit – not many jobs offer that.

3) Please provide a brief summary of your previous experience:

I’ve worked within health and fitness for over 12 years, having started as a lifeguard/fitness instructor with David Lloyd Leisure whilst at university. As a Physiotherapy graduate, I found my niche with rehabilitation and completed further qualifications in GP referral, pilates and with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. After several successful years, I progressed into management and held various roles such as Operations Manager and Gym Manager before joining The Training Room. I still teach a variety of group exercise classes such as Bodypump, Bodyvive, Spin and pilates.

4) Why do you enjoy working at The Training Room PT?

I get to share all the skills and experience I’ve gained to help students start their career successfully. It’s always rewarding to see each course grow in confidence and their transformation into personal trainers over the 6 weeks.

5) What is the best thing about your academy?

Our tutors have a wide range of industry expertise, from running a PT business through to working within the large private operators and leisure management. We can offer advice and support towards your chosen career path based on extensive industry knowledge.

6) What is your favourite part of the course?

I enjoy all parts, but for me it has to be all the group exercise modules (Cycling, Circuits) as they are so much fun!

7) What can students expect from the course?

We are located at David Lloyd in Solihull South. Just 20 minutes from Birmingham city centre. You’ll have access to all gym facilities, including a swimming pool and a large variety of studio classes. The course is delivered through a variety of classroom lectures, group discussion, demonstrations, practical workshops and home study. Career advice sessions are also organised, with presentations from main industry employers. Over the 6 weeks, our students form strong friendships and often stay in touch once qualified offering a fantastic support network.
